People own dogs from all walks of life and most would say that their lives are enriched. There are many elderly or lonely people who find their dogs are the only every day contact they have. Dogs are always pleased to see us and treat us like long lost friends they haven’t seen for many years. They are not just pets but faithful companions.

Fear of flying can mean years of missing out on opportunities to visit faraway places. Most people don’t even know why they have this fear. The fear level varies considerably, from the people who are unable to even get on an aeroplane to those who can but are terrified as soon as the plane takes off.

It helps to know that aeroplanes are built to cope with turbulence and how something as big as an aeroplane is able to get off the ground. Did you know that we as air travellers are never put into danger because the pilot actually values his life too?

There are millions of rabbits kept as pets in our homes. There are many different breeds of rabbit from the tiny Polish rabbit to the British Giant, lots of different colours and ear sizes. Some ears are straight and others such as lop eared rabbits have ears that fold over.

Not everyone knows the right way to look after them. They are totally dependent on us and need more attention than just food and water each day. Owning a rabbit is a commitment that will last for several years and the decision to have one should not be taken lightly.

Many rabbits are given to children who are not able to look after them and the rest of the family don’t have the time. This means that the rabbit suffers and usually ends up in a rescue centre where he may never be re-homed.

Roses are such beautiful flowers and are comparatively easy to grow productively. Thy need plenty of sunshine, ideally around 6 hours for most varieties but it is always best to check as some types of roses may need less. It is easy to have roses all summer if you know how to prune them properly. If you summer prune, after the first group of flowers, to about one third of the size you should get another flush of roses to last you for the rest of the summer.

It is important to eliminate pests such as black spot and mildew although some varieties are resistant to these problems. You should never pick too many roses from the early blooms as you could disturb their growing for the rest of the season. If you do not feel able to do a lot of pruning, it is possible to cut the whole bush back to half the size in spring to produce a successful year’s growth.

Most of the cats we own are non- pedigree, which means they do not belong to any of the recognised breeds but are a mix of many. They sometimes resemble one particular breed even though there may have been many years of cross breeding. Pedigree cats will have several generations of pure breeding behind them and will have their’ family tree’ registered officially.

Working cats normally live in country areas and farms and are kept for their rodent removal abilities. Sometimes they are kept in factories and there are still some ships that have cats on board although this is much less likely than in the days of sail. Feral cats have to fend for themselves. They may be descendants of domestic cats who have been abandoned by families or a factory cat that was thrown out when the factory closed. They live around dumps, markets and anywhere where they can find food.

At some time or other, most of us have read our sun sign predictions or horoscopes in magazines or newspapers but they give a very broad reading and we often don’t know what they mean.
